Can Twin Peaks survive without him?

We were all so excited when the news broke that Twin Peaks was returning to TV with Kyle Maclachlan starring and series co-creator David Lynch directing all nine episodes. Unfortunately, Lynch just revealed on Twitter that he won’t be involved after all. Now I’m not sure if I should excited or afraid.

But according to the Deadline report, Showtime has released a statement expressing some hope:

We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.

I’m skeptical that there’s any hope, personally. Lynch seemed pretty definite in his tweets:

The reboot is scheduled to air in 2016.

I saw 'Mars Attacks!' in theaters when I was five. I still think it's the greatest horror movie for five year olds ever made.
