Your introduction to giallo

South American siblings Luciano Onetti & Nicolás Onetti are back with another giallo flick, Francesca. For those that don’t know, giallo is an Italian genre of movies and literature that closely resemble our horror movies. Filled with murders, slashers, and mystery the one major difference between horror and giallo is giallo’s more stylistic approach to its work.

The Onetti brothers are no stranger to giallo. They gave us the surreal Sonno Profondo two years ago and this year they look to continue the trend with Francesca.

It’s been 15 years since the disappearance of little Francesca, daughter of the renowned storyteller, poet and dramatist Vittorio Visconti, and the community is stalked by a psychopath bent on cleaning the city of “impure and damned souls”. Moretti and Succo, questioned by the ineffectiveness of the police force, are the detectives in charge of elucidating the mystery surrounding these “Dantesque” crimes. Francesca seems to have returned, but she is not be the same girl who everyone knew…

It’s already been a good year for horror films but if Francesca is as good the synopsis sounds then giallo may have a bright future here in the US. Giallo Film Central? Hm, has a nice ring to it. Check out stills from the film below and click here to check out their facebook page for more info.
