Murphy said that the “Hotel” idea was inspired by a surveillance video from the Cecil Hotel which showed a girl – Elise Lam – in an elevator, who was later found dead. “It is called ‘Hotel’ and it’s set in a hotel,” Murphy said, disclosing that the hotel will be set in downtown L.A. “We deal with a lot of American horrors, [including] addiction.

We’ve included the video that Murphy is referencing below.

Lady Gaga joins the cast in the role of the hotel’s owner, along with Matt Bomer, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Evan Peters, Finn Wittrock, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley, and Cheyenne Jackson. American Horror Story: Hotel airs on October 7th.
