Mannequins…why did it have to be mannequins…

In 2006, director Jon Knautz won Best Director for two films at The Malibu Film Festival.  One of those films, titled Still Life, is today’s chosen horror short.  Written by Charles Johnston and starring Trevor Matthews, Still Life is a 9-minute-long horror film that boasts not only an entirely original concept, but Uncanny Valley nightmare fuel.

Here’s a quick, spoiler-free synopsis of the film:

A pill-popping, over-caffeinated driver accidentally hits something. Panic-stricken, he searches for help in a strange and desolate town that offers very little in the form of human kindness.

In case you’ve never experienced it first-hand, sleep deprivation, especially chronic sleep deprivation, can lead to a variety of complications, including impaired cognitive function, an elevated risk of injury, and even hallucinations.  These hallucinations can be quick and mild– like seeing something from the corner of your eye.  Sometimes, though, they’re not so benign…
