The two actresses are on deck to be annihilated.

Gina Rodriguez, who plays the title character on the popular CW comedy Jane the Virgin, is said to be eyeing a lead role in director Alex Garland’s latest project, Annihilation, alongside Natalie Portman.

Portman was confirmed earlier this year, and Rodriguez would be the next addition to the cast. With Portman starring in next year’s Jane Got a Gun, Annihilation will be Jane meets Jane (sorry.. had to!)

Slashfilm says: “Based on a novel by Jeff VanderMeer, the film follows a group of women who take on a dangerous mission where the laws of nature don’t apply. Portman plays the narrator, a biologist. Annihilation has attracted the attention of several other high-profile stars including Frances McDormand. Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton were also said to be eyeing roles at one point, but that no longer seems to be the case. Scott Rudin is producing.”

Annihilation will shoot in the spring of 2016, while Jane the Virgin is on hiatus. Alex Garland is best known for writing the screenplays of 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, and Dredd. He made his directorial debut last year in the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina. He will write and direct Annihilation.
