“Children, have you ever seen the boogie man before?”

This  is the lead in to the eerie children’s song looming throughout the background of the refreshingly scary trailer to Sinister 2. The vintage track provides the perfect backdrop for the second chapter in our story of Bughuul, an ancient demon that’s been in the bussiness of stealing children’s souls for a long time, and by the looks of this new trailer… business is good!

Here’s a quick synopsis for the upcoming sequel:

In the aftermath of the shocking events in Sinister, a protective mother and her 9-year-old twin sons find themselves in a rural house marked for death as the evil spirit of Buhguul continues to spread with frightening intensity.”

Sinister 2

Watching this trailer brought me back to my childhood (It’s okay, years of therapy have helped) in the sense that I haven’t seen a horror movie in a long time that’s captured such a sense of wonder.  Movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Children of the Corn, and even ET kept coming to mind as I watched the trailer…who knows, maybe its the open fields? This movie doesn’t rely on big budget theatrics, gore, or any other cheap thrills to get your skin crawling, nope, just good old fashioned scary. Just like mom use to make it. They’ve captured the use of isolation, suspense,  and not knowing what’s under the bed to create a devilishly compelling story.
