The dead are coming to New York…

The production-finance company Demarest announced today at Cannes that they are developing a TV adaptation of the 15-issue Empire of the Dead graphic novel by George A. Romero, says Variety.

The series will be written by Romero and longtime partner Peter Grunwald, and executive produced by Romero and Grunwald with Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

In a departure from Romero’s iconic zombie movies (Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dawn, Dawn of the Dead), the graphic novel, set in New York City, includes vampires as well as zombies.
